Southwest Valley Chamber of Commerce issued the following announcement on Nov. 27.
The Southwest Valley Chamber of Commerce is excited to host the Great Bowls of Fire Chili Cook-off on Saturday January 26, 2019, 11:00am - 5:00pm at Veterans Park in Tolleson, AZ.
This will be the premiere opening for what will be an amazing regional food competition and festival.
Cooks and cooking teams can enter any or all of the chili cook-off categories: Traditional (no beans or pasta), Homestyle (beans required), or Vegetarian (no meats or meat byproducts). First and second place winners in each category will receive a cash prize and an award. There will also be an overall "People's Choice Award" presented to one contestant. A panel of local dignitaries, celebrities, and community leaders will judge the chili.
"This will be a big event for the Southwest Valley community and possibly for Arizona," said John Safin, president and CEO of the Southwest Valley Chamber of Commerce. "Food competitions are always exciting. With the live music, fun things for the kids to do, and other entertainment, we expect people from all over the state and maybe the country to participate."
Local musical groups and performers will take the stage during the entire festival. Special for families will be the KidZone and playground. For adults, VFW Post 6310 Tolleson will be ready at the beer and wine garden.
Veterans Park is located at 8601 W. Van Buren Street, Tolleson, AZ. Admission is free and each chili sampling kit is only $5. Cooks/cooking teams is only $25 per category to enter. Registration deadline for cooks, vendors, and sponsors is January 10. Proceeds go to the Southwest Valley Chamber of Commerce to provide services and future events for businesses and community. Beer and wine garden proceeds to benefit VFW Post 6310 Tolleson.
