TUCSON —Pima County Supervisors recently approved a rezoning change that affects owners of mobile homes built prior to 1976 by requiring proof of certification before importation and relocation. 

According to Pima County officials, the rezoning includes an amendment that would require proof from the Arizona State Department of Housing's Manufactured Housing Division of certification before an owner can import, install or relocate their mobile home in Pima County or connect to utilities. 

"Mobile home units remain an important form of low-income housing in the region," the county said in a statement.  "The Pima County Assessor’s Office has about 17,400 pre-1976 mobile homes registered for taxation purposes. Many of these units, however, have not been rehabilitated or have fallen into disrepair."

Permits for additions or other improvements to the pre-1976 mobile homes will not be required, according to the county. 

"Pima County has a commitment to the safety and health of residents, although state statutes limit the extent of regulation localities can impose on mobile home units," the county's statement said.
