Tucson's Homeless Work Program marks the start of its second year this month and the participation of over 260 people who have helped to clean up over 100 locations throughout the city. 

To date, the program has helped to clean up the city, house 30 people and give 42 people job opportunities through the Sullivan Jackson Employment team and other employers. 

The Homeless Work Program was initiated by Ward 5 Council Member Richard Fimbres last December. The program gives homeless people the opportunity to earn $10 per hour in cash by working as part of a day-labor crew to beautify the Tucson's streets and roadways. Since the program's inception, over 51,000 pounds of trash and waste have been cleaned in addition to leading to housing and jobs for the homeless participants. 

The program is funded through the City of Tucson, private donors and donations given to the Tucson Change Movement through special parking meters at 18 different locations throughout the city.  Funding for the Tucson Homeless Work Program also comes from Pima County, HSL Properties, Cox Communications, Southwest Gas, Tucson Medical Center and WalMart.
