The Maricopa County Board of Supervisors has appointed Mahogany Cherry Kennedy as its constable for South Mountain Justice Precinct, a position that was left open after the resignation of former Constable Jimmie Munoz.

The board recently voted to appoint Kennedy as constable, a position which is normally filled by election, but was filled by the board due to the unexpected constable vacancy.

“I’m glad that I was able to nominate a highly qualified person to the position,” District 5 Supervisor Steve Gallardo said in a statement. “A constable’s duties can be difficult at times, but I am confident in my discussions with Ms. Kennedy, she will be able to perform those duties with wisdom and compassion.”

Kennedy has been actively involved in the Maricopa community for over 10 years, recently served as case manager for Chicanos Por La Causa and worked with the Arizona @ Work program. She has also worked with at-risk youth through the Arizona Department of Juvenile Corrections and Maricopa County Regional School District 509.

“I was born and raised in this precinct,” Kennedy said in a press release. “I look forward to serving and connecting with all members of my community.”

As constable, Kennedy will be responsible for serving official documents such as eviction notices and orders of protection.
