The Salt River Project (SRP) Solar for Nonprofits is offering valley-area nonprofits a chance to receive a free photovoltaic (PV) system that will be awarded next year.

SRP is seeking applicants to apply for the free PV system for a roof or newly constructed covered parking structure. SRP will design, procure and install the PV systems and will fund the maintenance of the systems for two years, according to a press release.

According to SRP, the PV solar systems will allow nonprofits to offset a portion of their energy usage with solar power and will help create awareness about solar power and its benefits. The SRP Solar for Nonprofits program is funded through SRP customers' monthly donations. 

Applications will be accepted through Sept. 8 and must be received by mail, email or by hand delivery at the SRP center at 2727 E. Washington St. in Phoenix. 

For the past 10 years, the SRP’s program has donated 57 PV installations helping nonprofits to save over $450,000 in energy costs, the release said. Organizations such as the Boys & Girls Club of Metropolitan Phoenix, Liberty Wildlife and Habitat For Humanity of Central Arizona have benefited from the SRP solar program.
