The city of Temple has received two STEM grants that will promote learning in out-of-school programs.

Kid Zone Enrichment Program was awarded two AzCASE and Cox Communications grants for 2017, which were given to support its Lego Robotics and Hex Bug Club programs.

The Curry/Connolly location, which runs the Lego Robotics program, was awarded $1,500. The money will be used toward robotics kits that will help students learn more about engineering and design.

Fuller Kid Zone's Hex Bug Club program was also awarded $1,500. The money will help allow youths to study nature of insects and the ecosystem.

The grants are awarded to programs around the state that offer out-of-school programming in support of STEM subjects. Grants range from $500 to $1,500.

Over 75 applications were received for grant money from various groups and organizations around Arizona.

Others grant recipients include the STEMtramurals Rubik’s Cube Clubs developed by Kyrne School District, the Moxie Girl Productions by the Sierra Verde STEM Academy, the Outdoor Exploration Robot by Tolleson Union & University High School, Robotics and Coding with Ardunio at the Pima Community College in Tucson and the 21st Century Community Learning Center at Estes Elementary.
