A charity that helps those with Down Syndrome has been seeking donations in honor of World Down Syndrome Day, which was held in March.

Ruby’s Rainbow offers scholarships for adults with Down Syndrome who wish to pursue post-secondary education.

According to Bureau of Labor Statistics, the rate of employment for those with disabilities was 17.5 percent in 2015, compared with 65 percent of the general population.  

The director of marketing and client services for BestCompaniesAZ, Jocelyn Cook, has invited companies to make a difference and contribute to Ruby’s Rainbow.

“You will play a part in allowing more young adults with Down Syndrome to realize their dreams of attending college and learning valuable skills for their future employment,” Cook wrote on the organization’s website.

Cook said that Ruby’s Rainbow was running its challenge, which asks individuals to donate $21 and to ask three friends to do the same.

“But we know corporations can do more than that," she wrote. "So we challenge our corporate friends to consider donations of $321 or $3,210, or whatever amount you are able to contribute!”

According to the charity’s website, it raised over $130,000 with the pledge campaign.
