The Arizona Corporation Commission recently approved using emergency funds from the Small Water Systems Fund for water system improvements in Yavapai County.

Acme Water Company in Yavapai County "has been struggling financially and in dire need of infrastructure improvements,” the ACC said in a news release. Acme has reported more than 44 percent water loss in 2015, the ACC said, and ACC staff determined the cause to be serious deterioration of the service lines. The amount allocated to update the lines was $202,914.

The state legislature established the emergency fund to assist water companies in counties across the state.

Acme serves approximately 123 customers in mobile home communities northeast of Congress, the ACC said. Many of those residents are on fixed-incomes, the ACC said, “So this decision eliminates the need for any rate increases to pay for repairs.”

While the improvements are being made, the ACC chose Walden Meadows Community Cooperative to be an interim manager to assist with the continuation and smooth running of water systems.
