The Arizona Department of Transportation Motor Vehicle Division (MVD) said recently it is taking steps to make things easier for beginning drivers working toward getting their driver's licences.

MVD is eliminating random road tests for those who went through private driving school. Graduates of private, third-party driving schools currently must complete a final evaluation to receive a training completion certificate to present when applying for a driver's license. Eliminating random MVD road tests means more time for MVD employees to serve other customers. It also makes MVD offices more efficient.

“These changes keep MVD ahead of the curve and help us with our vision of getting people out of line and safely on the road,” MVD Director Eric Jorgensen said.

Road testing has also been phased out at the Northwest Phoenix Office in Deer Valley since the office is very busy. Customers who require road tests are encouraged to make appointments through ServiceArizona.com for either the Glendale or Scottsdale locations where the MVD has increased capacity, resulting in lower wait times.

“Making this improvement means more tests can be done, and the process is quicker, safer and less stressful for the customer,” Jorgensen said.
