Walgreens has announced that flu shots are now available for individuals aged three and older at its stores across the United States. Customers can receive their vaccination by walking into any Walgreens pharmacy or scheduling an appointment through various methods, including the Walgreens website, app, text message, or phone call.

Beginning August 1, members of the myWalgreens program who receive any vaccine will be eligible for a 20% discount on their next qualifying purchase. This offer is part of Walgreens’ effort to encourage vaccination and promote public health.

Community pharmacies have played a significant role in flu vaccinations during the recent season. According to data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), pharmacies administered nearly 38 million flu vaccine doses in the 2024-2025 season—almost double the number given in medical offices. https://www.cdc.gov/fluvaxview/dashboard/adult-vaccinations-administered.html?CDC_AAref_Val=https://www.cdc.gov/flu/fluvaxview/dashboard/vaccination-administered.html

Walgreens has implemented several measures to make vaccinations more accessible. These include simplified scheduling, options for walk-in appointments, and family appointments that allow up to four people to book vaccines together. A new digital check-in feature enables customers to scan a QR code upon arrival and continue shopping until it is time for their appointment.

The CDC reported that the 2024-2025 flu season was one of the most severe since 2017-2018, affecting people of all ages. www.cdc.gov/fluview/surveillance/2025-week-17.html The agency recommends annual flu vaccination for everyone six months and older, ideally by late October each year. https://www.cdc.gov/flu/hcp/acip/index.html

“Vaccines are the best way to help prevent and reduce the severity of potentially deadly viruses like flu,” said Rick Gates, chief pharmacy officer, Walgreens. “At Walgreens, we’re committed to making it easy and convenient for people to get the protection they need. It is important that everyone is up to date on their recommended vaccines heading into the fall and winter, when viruses like flu are more likely to surge.”

Customers are encouraged to use Walgreens’ digital tools for scheduling appointments, completing consent paperwork ahead of time, receiving reminders, and checking in digitally at stores. Pharmacists remain available onsite to answer questions about vaccines and provide guidance based on individual medical histories.

Founded in 1901, Walgreens operates around 8,500 stores throughout the U.S. and Puerto Rico with approximately 220,000 employees—including nearly 90,000 healthcare service providers—and serves nearly nine million customers daily both in-store and online.

Walgreens is part of Walgreens Boots Alliance Inc., which focuses on retail pharmacy services as well as specialty care for patients with complex health conditions.
