The U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) is reminding private nonprofit organizations in Missouri of the approaching deadline to apply for federal disaster loans following severe weather events. The deadline for these applications is set for August 11, 2025.

This reminder follows a disaster declaration that includes the Missouri counties of Scott, St. Louis, and the Independent City of St. Louis due to storms, straight-line winds, tornadoes, and flooding on May 16.

Eligible private nonprofits providing governmental services can apply for business physical damage loans. These organizations may borrow up to $2 million to repair or replace damaged real estate, machinery, equipment, inventory, and other assets.

Applicants may also be eligible for an increase in their loan amount by up to 20% for mitigation purposes. Improvements could include insulating pipes and attics or installing storm windows to protect against future damage.

Chris Stallings, associate administrator of the Office of Disaster Recovery and Resilience at the SBA said: “One distinct advantage of SBA’s disaster loan program is the opportunity to fund upgrades reducing the risk of future storm damage.”

Additionally, private nonprofits are eligible for Economic Injury Disaster Loans (EIDLs) to address working capital needs such as fixed debts and payroll. EIDL assistance is available regardless of physical property damage.

Interest rates for these loans can be as low as 3.625%, with terms extending up to 30 years. Payments are deferred until 12 months after the first loan disbursement. Loan amounts and terms depend on each applicant's financial condition.

The SBA encourages timely submission of applications which will be processed based on order received. Applications can be submitted online at sba.gov/disaster or through their Customer Service Center.

The final date to submit applications for physical property damage is August 11, 2025, while economic injury applications are due by March 9, 2026.
