The Insurance Information Institute (Triple-I) has announced the appointment of Patrick Schmid as its new chief insurance officer, effective July 11, 2025. Schmid will also lead the Catastrophe Resiliency Council and the Insurance Research Council (IRC), reporting to Triple-I CEO Sean Kevelighan. He succeeds Dale Porfilio in these roles.

Porfilio, who served for four years, expressed gratitude for his tenure: “I have been deeply honored to serve the insurance industry as a leader of the Triple-I and IRC for the last four years.” Kevelighan praised Porfilio's contributions: “We are grateful for his leadership and the impact he has made across our organization and industry.”

Schmid, who holds advanced degrees in economics from Temple University, will continue as president of The Institutes’ RiskStream Collaborative. His previous roles at The Institutes include vice president of RiskStream Collaborative and director of research at IRC.

Kevelighan highlighted Schmid's qualifications: “We are fortunate to have a strong succession plan in place with Pat and his deep understanding of strategy, risk management and collaborative innovation make him an excellent fit for this expanded leadership role at Triple-I and IRC.”

Schmid expressed enthusiasm about his new role: “I’m truly excited to embrace this opportunity to lead and collaborate within the Triple-I, IRC and the Catastrophe Resiliency Council communities.”

Triple-I is known for providing data-driven insights into risk management and insurance. It represents a diverse membership that accounts for nearly half of all U.S. property/casualty premiums written.

The IRC is an independent nonprofit research organization supported by leading property and casualty insurance companies. It provides research on public policy issues affecting insurance companies without lobbying or advocating legislative positions.

The Catastrophe Resiliency Council aims to promote resilience against natural catastrophes through collaboration among insurers, reinsurers, intermediaries, and model providers.

The Institutes RiskStream Collaborative is noted as the first enterprise-level blockchain consortium in risk management and insurance.
