Morgan Stanley Investment Management has announced a $30 million investment through its 1GT climate private equity strategy in Insight M, a company specializing in methane management solutions for the energy sector. This funding leads a growth equity round with participation from existing investors DCVC, Climate Investment, and Energy Innovation Capital.
Insight M uses proprietary sensors on aircraft to collect high-resolution data on methane emissions, helping energy operators identify and repair emitting infrastructure. The company operates across the United States and globally, providing reliable insights and benchmarks on methane emissions.
Vikram Raju, Head of Climate Private Equity Investing at MSIM, stated that fugitive methane emissions are significant from environmental, operational, and financial perspectives. He emphasized Insight M's solution as effective for timely detection and repair of emissions using their technology.
Methane emissions have substantial global warming potential compared to carbon dioxide. Insight M's aerial detection method balances accuracy with cost-effectiveness. Since its inception, the company has contributed to avoiding over 110 million metric tons of CO2e emissions.
David Bercovich, CEO of Insight M, expressed that effective methane management enhances operational success and environmental stewardship. The new funding will help deploy solutions globally to reduce emissions while increasing profits for energy operators.
