Residents of Covington, Kentucky, are advised to place their trash and recycling carts out the night before collection. Starting next week, Rumpke Waste & Recycling will commence its operations an hour earlier on days with extreme heat. The adjustment aims to protect workers from heat-related illnesses such as heat stroke and exhaustion.
The City of Covington has approved Rumpke's request to begin residential and commercial collections at 6 a.m., rather than the usual 7 a.m., when high temperatures and humidity levels pose a risk.
"On brutally hot days, the garbage trucks will be driving down Covington streets an hour earlier than usual," according to the announcement.
