The AbbVie Migraine Career Catalyst Award contest is now open for entries, offering financial support to individuals living with migraine who wish to pursue their professional and career development goals. This initiative by AbbVie, the only company with three approved products designed to meet patient needs across the spectrum of migraine, aims to provide support beyond treatment.
AbbVie announced the second annual contest, inviting entries from people living with migraine. The company will award 20 winners $2,500 each to assist them in achieving personal, professional, and educational aspirations.
"Migraine can be an invisible barrier to success in the workplace where the condition is often misunderstood or stigmatized," said Carl Cincinnato, executive director of Migraine at Work. "Initiatives like the AbbVie Migraine Career Catalyst Award contest not only provide financial support but also serve as a powerful form of advocacy for people living with migraine."
Migraine is noted as the second leading cause of disability worldwide. Symptoms such as severe headaches and nausea often disrupt daily activities and affect work performance. An AbbVie study revealed that over half of those with chronic migraine reported negative impacts on their careers due to the condition.
"Migraine can create significant challenges in the workplace that can limit career opportunities and growth," said Jag Dosanjh, senior vice president at AbbVie. He emphasized AbbVie's commitment to providing meaningful support that empowers individuals beyond treatment.
Last year’s recipients utilized their awards for various professional enhancements, including creating migraine-friendly workspaces and attending conferences. Melody B., a previous winner, shared her experience: "Despite migraine, I found my passion in Human Resources. This award has allowed me to pursue training and certifications in both HR and project management."
Entries for this year's contest are open until September 2, 2025. Participants must submit an essay or video detailing their experiences with migraines and how they plan to use the award money.
The contest is open to legal residents of the United States aged 18 or older. Prior winners are not eligible for this year's contest.
AbbVie's mission includes addressing medical challenges across several therapeutic areas while striving for a significant impact on people's lives through innovative medicines.
