HealthEdge, a company known for its core administrative processing systems and care management solutions, has announced its decision to migrate operations to Amazon Web Services (AWS). This move aims to integrate generative artificial intelligence (AI) and agentic systems into the company's core operations, products, and infrastructure. Loka, recognized as AWS partner of the year in 2024, will employ Amazon Bedrock to develop AI applications that will assist HealthEdge in becoming an AI-native enterprise.

Robert Duffy, Chief Technology Officer at HealthEdge, stated, "AI is unlocking opportunities that we almost couldn’t imagine a few short years ago. This is especially true in healthcare." He emphasized the importance of breaking down data silos within the healthcare industry through this migration to AWS. Duffy noted that AI could extract value from large volumes of data that are challenging for humans to process with traditional technology.

HealthEdge's transformation into an AI-native enterprise focuses on three main areas: workforce efficiency, product enhancements, and building an AI-driven platform. The company plans to use AI tools across various functions such as engineering and finance to improve efficiency by offloading 15% of employees' current work over the next 12 to 18 months. Additionally, integrating AI into the HealthEdge platform aims to empower customers by enhancing claims processing and enabling easier access to information through Large Language Models (LLMs).

The development of a robust AI-driven platform on AWS will provide the necessary computational power and scalability for extensive AI initiatives. This investment is intended to support internal tooling and advanced product features while fostering an AI-first culture within HealthEdge.

Emily Kruger, CIO at Loka, commented on the initiative by saying, "AI is at its best when it’s working for you, not the other way around." She highlighted that agentic AI offers adaptive intelligence that learns and improves over time.

Ben Schreiner from AWS added that "Amazon Bedrock allows HealthEdge to rapidly integrate AI capabilities," which will benefit customers through reduced operational costs and improved decision-making accuracy.

HealthEdge continues its mission of building a future without limits for health plans by providing integrated solutions across various aspects of healthcare administration. The company serves over 130 health plans covering more than 110 million lives across 48 states.
