Boeing and AviLease have announced a significant order for up to 30 Boeing 737 MAX jets. The deal, which includes a firm purchase of 20 737-8 jets with options for an additional 10, marks AviLease's first direct order from the aircraft manufacturer.
Edward O'Byrne, CEO of AviLease, stated, "We are pleased to conclude our first direct Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) order, complementing our growth strategy towards being at the top of the industry." He emphasized that this transaction showcases AviLease's ability to engage in various market channels and will help accelerate their growth by providing modern, fuel-efficient fleet solutions. O'Byrne also expressed gratitude towards Boeing for their strong partnership.
The acquisition aligns with Saudi Arabia's strategic vision to become a global aviation hub. The new aircraft will contribute to the nation's objectives of accommodating 330 million passengers and attracting 150 million visitors each year by 2030.
Brad McMullen, Boeing's senior vice president of Commercial Sales and Marketing, commented on the partnership: "We are honored to strengthen our relationship with a key Saudi Arabian commercial aviation partner and expand the global 737 MAX fleet." He highlighted that the addition of these planes would enhance AviLease's portfolio by offering superior fuel efficiency and versatility.
The Boeing 737 is known for its broad customer base and cost-effective operations. It constitutes about 30% of all financed airplanes in the leasing sector.
