Hearings for the 2025-2026 fiscal year budget commenced on May 8, focusing on Mayor Craig Greenberg's $1.26 billion proposal. The budget addresses public safety, modular housing and emergency shelters, and aims to boost economic growth.

Key elements of the proposal include investments in technology and infrastructure. There is funding for more cameras and license plate readers, continued support for the Louisville Group Violence Intervention program, and a five percent raise for non-union employees. New investments are also directed towards artificial intelligence to enhance metro government efficiency.

The budget allocates resources to improve snow team operations, increase Department of Transportation funding, and bolster Solid Waste Management to enhance street cleanliness. Additionally, it provides for staffing and security at Algonquin Park and Baxter Community Center, addresses deferred maintenance at parks, fully funds the Highland Park Bike Park, and offers $1 million in matching funds for new library materials.

Moreover, there is sponsorship for July 4th celebrations at Waterfront Park. The proposal also includes $100,000 allocated to Greater Louisville Inc. to continue supporting regional economic development.

Metro Council will conclude its review process by the end of June following departmental hearings. A vote on the budget is scheduled for June 26.
