Abbott and Real Madrid have announced the launch of the 'Abbott Dream Team,' a program aimed at identifying young soccer talent across the United States. The initiative offers selected athletes an opportunity to train in Madrid with Real Madrid's coaches and learn about health and sports nutrition from Abbott experts.
The tryouts will be held in five U.S. cities: Chicago, Dallas, Los Angeles, Philadelphia, and Washington, D.C., accommodating up to 250 participants aged 18-19 per location. Clint Dempsey, a prominent figure in American soccer, will mentor the athletes.
Participants will receive intensive training from Real Madrid coaches and health education from Abbott. Selected players will travel to Spain for further training at Real Madrid's facilities and attend a match at Santiago Bernabéu Stadium.
Dempsey emphasized the importance of nutrition in sports success: "I benefited from world-class nutritional programming throughout my soccer career, and I know how crucial a strong health foundation is for reaching your full potential," he said. "That's why I believe Abbott's Dream Team program has the power to change the lives of young athletes by giving them the tools to thrive and uplift their communities."
The program aligns with Abbott's 'Beat Malnutrition' campaign in partnership with Real Madrid. Ann Smith of Abbott highlighted this mission: "Our work with Real Madrid is rooted in empowering future generations through nutrition and sport," she stated.
Tryouts are scheduled between June 17 and July 24, 2025. Athletes can register via www.AbbottDreamTeam.com for more details on participation.
