Boeing announced that its 787 Dreamliner fleet has carried over 1 billion passengers, achieving this milestone faster than any other widebody commercial airplane in history. This accomplishment was reached in less than 14 years since the aircraft entered service. The global fleet encompasses over 1,175 airplanes, with nearly 5 million flights and more than 30 million flight hours to its name.
Scott Stocker, vice president and general manager of the Boeing 787 program, stated, "This milestone would not have been possible without the trust and confidence of our customers in operating the 787, and we are incredibly grateful for each of them." Stocker added that the 787 Dreamliner family was designed to connect people and places in unprecedented ways and that the achievement underscores the aircraft's impact on transforming air travel with versatility, efficiency, and comfort.
To commemorate this event, Boeing released a video celebrating the passengers, partners, and people who contributed to the success of the 787 Dreamliner family. The company invites all those connected with the 787—including operators, passengers, suppliers, and Boeing employees—to share their memories on social media using the hashtag #Dreamliner.
Since entering service in 2011, the 787 Dreamliner has consistently broken records. It operates across more than 85 countries and at over 520 airports, including 425 new nonstop routes. With 2,100 flights each day, carrying about 480,000 passengers daily—approximately 14.5 million people a month—it demonstrates both strong demand and reliability.
The aircraft boasts a 25% improvement in fuel efficiency compared to its predecessors, largely due to new engines and advancements in materials and systems. It currently supports services over long distances such as the London to Perth route at 7,829 nautical miles, and short routes like Aruba to Curaçao at 65 nautical miles.
