Covington Parks & Recreation is actively seeking 10 to 12 lifeguards to ensure the timely opening of its swimming facilities in early June. Parks & Rec Manager Greg Stacy has stated, "If we’re not at full strength, it could jeopardize the hours our pools are open."

To address this need, SwimSafe Pool Management, the city's contractor, will host a hiring event on Thursday, May 1. The event will be held at the Kenton County Public Library’s Covington Branch from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Interested individuals are encouraged to bring a valid photo ID.

The lifeguard position offers an hourly wage of $15. SwimSafe has also committed to providing free lifeguard certification and salary during training for those who are not already certified. Applicants must be at least 15 years old, and there is no upper age limit. Positions are expected to be filled by May 31. The role involves a 40-hour work week, with pools scheduled to open on June 7 and operating from noon to 6 p.m.

For those unable to attend the hiring event, applications can be submitted online at swimsafepool.com, by calling Covington Parks & Rec at (859) 292-2151, or in person at the Parks & Rec office at City Hall, 20 West Pike Street.

Covington is home to two water facilities: Randolph Park in Eastside and the zero-depth Latonia Water Park/Splash Pad at the Bill Cappel Youth Sports Complex. These facilities see 75 to 100 swimmers daily. Annually, about 3,000 households register for pool passes. Residents can register either by printing an application from the City's website or applying directly at the pool.

Stacy urges potential candidates to "step up and make a splash," emphasizing the importance of filling these lifeguard positions for the swim season.
