OhioHealth Berger Hospital has named its surgery center lobby in honor of John Edgar, a long-time advocate for the hospital and its surrounding community. The dedication ceremony took place in February to recognize Edgar’s contributions to the institution.
Berger Hospital's President Casey Liddy remarked, “When I first joined Berger Hospital, John was one of the most influential people in my onboarding. His dedication, leadership and passion for strong, rural healthcare have shaped the success of our hospital, and it is only fitting that his name becomes a lasting part of our institution.”
John Edgar began his involvement with Berger Hospital in 2015 when he was elected to its board, where he played a crucial role in facilitating the hospital’s integration with OhioHealth, a significant step that promised the hospital’s growth and sustainability. After the integration, Edgar continued his leadership by joining the OhioHealth Circleville-Pickaway Lease Oversight Board in 2019.
His work with Berger Hospital is part of a life filled with service, including his tenure as a distinguished Air Force veteran and his career in education as superintendent of the Logan Elm Local School District. Moreover, his contributions to various volunteer boards have reinforced the community in Circleville.
“John’s impact extends far beyond these walls,” said Liddy. “His leadership, integrity, and tireless work have made a lasting difference not only at Berger but throughout our region.”
The dedication event coincides with OhioHealth Berger Hospital's ongoing enhancements to its surgical services. A $10 million project, initiated in 2024, is now proceeding to its second phase, which includes expanding and modernizing the hospital’s pre-surgery areas as well as upgrading its Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) and waiting rooms. The improvements aim to provide private pre and post-operative rooms, a larger surgery waiting area, and better navigation for patients and their families.
