The Goldman Sachs Group, Inc. has announced the appointment of Daniel Marcu as a Partner in the Engineering division and Global Head of AI Engineering and Science. In this capacity, Marcu will collaborate with engineering leaders across the firm to advance the development and deployment of artificial intelligence platforms and products. He will also work closely with business leadership to enhance productivity and efficiency through technology.
Marcu brings over 30 years of experience in technology and academia to his new role at Goldman Sachs. Previously, he served as vice president of Web and Knowledge Services at Amazon's Artificial General Intelligence organization. His career also includes positions such as chief science officer at SDL plc, chief technology and operations officer, and CEO of Language Weaver Inc., which he co-founded. Additionally, Marcu spent more than two decades at the Information Sciences Institute and University of Southern California.
He is an accomplished author with a book published by MIT Press and over 100 peer-reviewed scientific publications. Furthermore, Marcu holds more than 35 patents with the US Patent and Trademark Office and has been recognized as a Fellow by the Association for Computational Linguistics.
His academic credentials include a BSc in Automation and Computers from the Technical University of Cluj, Romania; an MSc and Ph.D. in Computer Science from the University of Toronto; and an Executive MBA from UCLA Anderson School of Management.
