The U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) has issued a reminder to small businesses and private nonprofit organizations in Oklahoma about the upcoming deadline to apply for federal disaster loans. These loans aim to mitigate economic losses due to the drought that began on June 11, 2024. The application deadline is April 7, 2025.
This disaster declaration affects several counties in Oklahoma, including Beckham, Blaine, Caddo, Canadian, Comanche, Custer, Grady, Greer, Jackson, Kiowa, Tillman, and Washita. Under this declaration, the SBA’s Economic Injury Disaster Loan (EIDL) program is available to eligible small businesses and private nonprofits experiencing financial losses directly related to the drought. However, agricultural producers such as farmers or ranchers are not eligible unless they operate small aquaculture enterprises.
EIDLs provide working capital for needs arising from the drought and can be used for expenses like fixed debts and payroll. These loans are available even if no physical damage occurred.
Chris Stallings of the SBA stated: “Through a declaration by the U.S. Secretary of Agriculture, SBA provides critical financial assistance to help communities recover.” He added that they are pleased to offer these loans to those impacted by the disasters.
Loan amounts can reach up to $2 million with interest rates as low as 4% for small businesses and 3.25% for PNPs. Terms can extend up to 30 years. Interest does not accrue until one year after the first loan disbursement.
Applications can be submitted online at SBA.gov/disaster or through their Customer Service Center via phone or email. Completed applications must be submitted by April 7.
