Today, Governor Andy Beshear announced that Kentucky has maintained its position in the top five for economic development projects per capita. This ranking comes from Site Selection magazine's 2024 Governor’s Cup, a position the state has held for all five years of Beshear's administration.
In the South Central region, Kentucky ranked second for regional projects per capita and third for total projects with 187 announcements in 2024. "These Governor’s Cup rankings showcase what we already know: Kentucky is witnessing unprecedented economic growth and setting a strong foundation for long-term success," stated Gov. Beshear. He added that many companies are choosing Kentucky as their base, which is creating jobs throughout the state.
Bowling Green achieved first place among metro areas with populations between 50,000 and 200,000 for total projects and moved to the top spot in the per capita category. Notable developments include Clark Beverage Group's new headquarters in Warren County.
Paducah and Owensboro also secured positions in the top 10 for both total projects and per capita categories, with expansions from companies like Blockware Mining, Swedish Match, and Mizkan America contributing to their success.
Louisville/Jefferson County and Northern Kentucky/Cincinnati made it into the top 10 metros per capita for populations over one million. Northern Kentucky/Cincinnati was seventh in total projects with contributions from HealthTrackRx's new laboratory, Dan-O’s Seasoning relocation and expansion, ISCO Industries' new facilities, Chick-fil-A Supply's facilities, L2 Aviation's facilities, and Nexigen Communications' expansion.
Lexington/Fayette County placed fifth per capita and tied ninth overall among metros with populations between 200,000 and one million due to expansion projects from SRC of Lexington and Piramal Pharma Solutions.
Paducah received recognition in the Top Mississippi River Corridor Metro rankings by securing eighth place in total projects and second place per capita.
Eight Kentucky communities were listed in the Top Micropolitans rankings by number of projects: Richmond-Berea, Corbin, Frankfort, Somerset, Campbellsville, Danville, Franklin, and Madisonville. These placements contribute to Kentucky being sixth nationally on this list.
Site Selection magazine has awarded the Governor’s Cup since 1988 to states with significant corporate facility developments tracked by Conway Projects Database. The publication reaches about 42,000 executives involved in corporate site selection decisions.
Last year’s ranking saw Kentucky third nationally but first regionally in South Central for economic development projects per capita according to Site Selection’s 2023 Governor’s Cup rankings. Additionally, it was ranked second regionally and within the top ten nationally in Site Selection’s Prosperity Cup ranking of state-level economic development agencies based on capital investment project successes.
Kentucky's achievements continue a record-breaking period of economic growth under Gov.
