OhioHealth Mansfield Hospital has completed the first phase of a significant investment project in cardiovascular care, totaling nearly $15 million. The project includes the introduction of advanced medical technology to enhance patient care.
Dr. Kaleb Kohler, a vascular surgeon at Mansfield Hospital, highlighted the significance of the new equipment: "This is the new, latest, greatest thing." The hospital's new interventional radiology lab features the Philips Azurion 7 C20 Flex Arm, a state-of-the-art imaging system utilized by neuro and vascular surgeons and interventional radiologists.
The newly installed equipment offers enhanced capabilities compared to previous technology. Dr. Kohler explained its benefits: “What it’s allowing us to do is do more complicated work, more safely for patients. So trying to keep more cases local and keep more patients here for their care, closer to home.”
The updated technology enables vascular surgeons to perform complex procedures such as advanced aortic repairs using stents for enlarged blood vessels in the abdomen. This advancement allows patients to receive comprehensive care locally while ensuring safety.
Dr. Kohler emphasized the reduced radiation exposure with the new system: “We’ve already been fixing aneurisms with our lowest amount of radiation to the patients,” adding that minimizing radiation reduces risks associated with long-term exposure.
The interventional radiology lab became operational in January 2025 as part of an extensive project aimed at upgrading Mansfield Hospital's facilities. This initiative also includes plans for a new electrophysiology lab, CT lab with updated software, cardiac catheterization labs, and a biplane lab.
