The Insurance Information Institute (Triple-I) has launched a campaign in Atlanta aimed at raising awareness about the impact of legal system abuse on Georgia's economy. The campaign includes physical billboards and digital advertisements in Downtown Atlanta, as well as a microsite—StopLegalSystemAbuse.org—and localized social media advertising. These efforts are designed to engage consumers and encourage support for legal reform in Georgia.
A significant challenge identified by Triple-I is the increase in frivolous lawsuits driven by attorneys taking advantage of Georgia's reputation as a "judicial hellhole," according to the American Tort Reform Association. This situation is said to burden courts and raise consumer costs, adding approximately $1,415 to annual household expenses.
Georgia Governor Brian Kemp and state legislative leaders have introduced a tort reform package intended to address these issues. Sean Kevelighan, CEO of Triple-I, along with Robert Townley, president of Townley Kenton insurance agency, emphasized the negative effects of legal system abuse through a video message. They noted that while some attorneys promise financial gain through lawsuits, such actions ultimately increase insurance costs for everyone.
To bolster its message, Triple-I has engaged directly with consumers to capture their experiences with billboard attorneys who promote frivolous lawsuits. Additionally, the organization has initiated a digital billboard campaign throughout Metro Atlanta near the state Capitol.
The goal of this campaign is to highlight how legal system abuse affects auto, home, and business insurance costs across Georgia's economy. As part of its initiative, Triple-I launched StopLegalSystemAbuse.org to educate consumers on these issues.
