Oil prices have reached approximately $80 per barrel, resulting in a four-cent increase in the national average price for gasoline, now at $3.10 per gallon. In contrast, the cost of electricity at public EV charging stations remains stable at 34 cents per kilowatt hour.
Andrew Gross, spokesperson for AAA, explained the situation: "Domestic gasoline demand is low, so why are pump prices creeping higher? Look at the cost of oil," he said. Gross attributes the rise in global oil prices to increased demand for winter heating fuel and recent U.S. sanctions on Russia's energy sector. He noted that "oil costs account for 56% of what you pay at the pump. So, more expensive oil leads to more expensive gas." Despite these increases, 26 states still report average gas prices below $3 per gallon.
