Northern Kentucky University's men's soccer team secured a significant victory in the Horizon League by defeating Purdue Fort Wayne with a score of 3-1. The match took place at the Hefner Soccer Complex in Fort Wayne, Indiana.
The game saw Northern Kentucky tie its highest offensive output of the season, matching their previous 3-0 win over Western Illinois on September 8. The Norse led in total shots with 12 compared to Purdue Fort Wayne's 10 and had more shots on goal, totaling five against two.
Caleb Mundell opened the scoring for Northern Kentucky in the second half, marking his first goal of the season with assists from Parker Vasic and Diego Hoenderkamp. Nico Stoddart then scored what became the game-winning goal, assisted by Caleb Frakes and Wade Stinson. Jason Purks later extended NKU's lead with his third goal of the season.
Morgan Lopes replaced Nic Lemen as goalkeeper in the 19th minute and made one save during his time on the field. The only goal allowed by Lopes was from a penalty kick awarded to Purdue Fort Wayne after a handball call.
After a goalless first half, Mundell scored in the 52nd minute. Shortly thereafter, Purdue Fort Wayne equalized through a penalty kick. However, Stoddart restored NKU's lead in the 64th minute, and Purks sealed the victory ten minutes later.
