Despite challenges both domestically and internationally, the national average price for a gallon of gasoline has decreased by three cents to $3.19. The recent impact of Hurricane Helene did not significantly affect gasoline supply but reduced demand in affected areas due to infrastructure damage and power outages. Public electric vehicle charging costs have remained stable.
Internationally, tensions between Iran and Israel have raised concerns about potential disruptions to oil shipments through the Straits of Hormuz, a critical maritime passageway. This situation has contributed to a gradual increase in oil prices.
Andrew Gross, a spokesperson for AAA, commented on the current trends: “Despite the threat of war and a hurricane season that is still percolating, domestic gasoline prices are edging lower.” He noted that 18 states east of the Rockies now have gas prices averaging below $3 per gallon. Additionally, OPEC+ has announced plans to increase production starting December 1st, which could further reduce pump prices.
