A report from the American Tort Reform Association found that Los Angeles-based personal injury attorney Jacob Emrani spent $13,751,794 on legal services advertisements in California in 2023. He is now facing a lawsuit alleging that he uses "predatory fees" to fund his advertising budget.

According to the report, Emrani’s ad spending was the fourth highest among law firms in the state. His firm aired approximately 83,028 ads throughout California last year.

Orange County Lawyers reported that Emrani is now facing a lawsuit over "predatory fees" that he allegedly uses to fund his advertising budget. Emrani is accused of operating a "legal intake mill," which attracts clients through large advertising campaigns, delays their cases until they seek legal representation elsewhere, and then charges them two administrative fees. Plaintiff Marc Mechaly reached out to Emrani’s firm for help after a car accident in 2015. Mechaly alleges that Emrani let the case "languish" for two years without serving the defendants. He also alleges that Emrani instructed him to falsify the amount of his loss-of-earnings claim.

According to the Daily Journal, Los Angeles County Superior Court records show that Emrani’s firm has settled similar cases brought by former clients of the firm.

Emrani’s law firm has been operating for 27 years, according to its website. The firm specializes in personal injury cases such as car and other vehicle accidents, defective products, and premises liability.

The American Tort Reform Association was founded in 1986. According to its website, the organization’s goal is to "bring greater fairness, predictability and efficiency to America’s civil justice system."
