Amazon announced it will start operating a drone delivery service in the West Valley Phoenix Metro Area this year.

The services offered will be same day delivery launched from their Tulleson location, the first time Amazon has fully integrated the drones with their delivery network. Tulleson will be the first hybrid location that serves as a fulfillment center and delivery station. Amazon’s Same-Day Delivery centers are typically located near metro areas to increase ease of service.

Amazon previously launched drone delivery programs in College Station, Texas, and in Lockeford, California, both in 2022.

Currently, Amazon is working with the Federal Aviation Administration to have all the necessary permissions to be able to launch drones in the area. Drone delivery service will behind after the proper authorities have been granted, and Amazon intends to announce the new feature to their customers in the delivery zone when ready.

Amazon is also testing a new model of drone to improve this delivery service. The MK30 drone was developed to be able to deliver in more densely populated suburban areas to smaller properties. It is quieter and has a greater flight range than previous drones, Amazon reports. It can also reportedly fly in more weather conditions than previous drones, including during light rain.
