A recent report from online job marketplace platform Wonolo revealed the top three reasons American gig workers seek new employment.
Wonolo shared the findings of its "The Voices of the Gig Economy: 2022 Industry Report" in a recent PR Newswire press release. The survey included more than 3,000 workers using the Wonolo app. Key findings of the report showed that American workers seek new employment opportunities for three main reasons, and only 34% of respondents were satisfied with their current situation.
The three main reasons workers seek new opportunities are higher wages (74%), flexibility (63%) and learning new skills (48%).
"Workers in many industries like warehousing, hospitality and manufacturing are struggling because their earnings aren't enough to cover the cost of living," Yong Kim, Wonolo co-founder and CEO, said in the press release. "We're committed to doing our part to enable workers to find jobs on the Wonolo platform that offer enough to live on based on the demands of their local economy."
Other top reasons workers sought new employment included managing increased living costs, higher job flexibility and supplementing their income.
The survey found that 50% of respondents reported to be struggling to earn enough income. As of mid-February, Wonolo found that 82% of job postings were offered by companies willing to pay a living wage or more.
"The discrepancy between job openings and unemployment numbers comes from the value workers place on the jobs they're evaluating and what companies are currently offering," Monica Plaza, chief strategy officer at Wonolo, said in the release. "Workers today place high value on flexibility, better pay and working conditions when looking for jobs. Rather than traditional 9-to-5 opportunities, workers want the freedom to piece together a schedule that fits their day."
Wonolo is currently known for being the leading online job marketplace platform for temporary staffing.
