Marion-Grant County Chamber of Commerce issued the following announcement on Nov. 20.

Indiana Wesleyan University is pleased to announced plans to renovate Carmin Hall, one of its female residence halls. In order to complete renovations, Carmin Hall will be closed during the 2019-2020 school year.

IWU personnel will complete renovations over a one-year period. Updates to the residence hall will include painting, flooring, and we are exploring possibilities for bathrooms. Carmin Hall will reopen during the 2020-2021 school year.

“We are committed to the ideals of community and believe that the residence hall experience is in many ways the ultimate realization of that commitment,” said Dr. Brandon Hill, vice president for Life Calling and Integrative Learning. “Carmin Hall has been a source of rich community and traditions for thousands of students over the last 28 years. We want to see that legacy continue and look forward to reopening a newly refreshed facility to future Carmin residents.”

Carmin Hall was built in 1990 and is the oldest operating residence hall on campus. In 2016 it was earmarked for significant renovation, but was delayed as timing became difficult and funds were applied to other residence hall needs. Carmin houses 152 women—freshmen through seniors—and is located in the center of IWU’s campus next to the Barnes Student Center. It is one of 12 undergraduate residential communities that provide engaging and supportive places for our students to live, learn and grow.
