Pima Community College issued the following announcement on Aug. 8.

Pima Community College is a recipient of the 2018 Award of Excellence in Facilities Management from APPA, previously known as the Association of Physical Plant Administrators.

The Award for Excellence is the highest institutional honor awarded by APPA, which promotes excellence in management of educational facilities. Only 60 institutions have received the Award of Excellence since it was first given in 1988.

“The institutions that receive the Award for Excellence are true leaders, and their achievements highlight the essential role of facilities operations in fulfilling an institution’s mission and vision,” said Dan Bollman, Vice President of Professional Affairs for APPA, a 104-year-old organization serving more than 1,300 learning institutions around the world.

The University of Arizona, Georgia Institute of Technology and Montclair State University also received the 2018 Award for Excellence.

“To be the only community college receiving the award this year is an acknowledgement of the hard work of our facilities and police teams,” said William Ward, Vice Chancellor for Facilities and College Police, who oversees the College’s 1.7 million square feet of facilities.

This is the second time Facilities has received the five-year award from APPA, demonstrating that it has continued to provide the highest levels of service since 2012, when it first received the award.
