With teachers across the state on strike April 26 through May 3, Gov. Doug Ducey said he is working to increase salaries for educators in Arizona.
"Without a doubt, teachers are some of the biggest difference-makers in the lives of Arizona children," Doucey said. "They need to be respected, and rewarded, for the work they do — and Arizona can do better on this front."
Doucey said on April 26, the first day of the strike, that he was working on getting teachers a 20 percent pay raise as soon as possible.
He also asked for the support from parents.
"To parents, I understand the pain and pressure caused by (the) strike," Doucey said. "I want you to know, I am working to get this 20 percent raise passed at the Legislature. But we need your help to make it a reality. Call your legislator and tell them to vote “yes” on a 20 percent pay raise for Arizona teachers. We need teachers teaching, and students learning."
