Outgoing president of the University of Arizona Board of Regents Eileen Klein is the state’s new treasurer.

Klein brings a wealth of experience and knowledge in the private and public sector, including a background in state budget management.

“I am honored to appoint Eileen Klein as our new state treasurer,” Gov. Doug Ducey said. “As someone who served as state treasurer, I understand the importance and complexities of this role. I can say with certainty, Eileen is the most qualified person in the state of Arizona for this job."

Klein was appointed to the U of A Board in 2013. As president, she oversaw the $5.1 billion Arizona public university enterprise, which included plans to enhance the state’s economic performance and student success rate via higher levels of educational attainment, research and commercialization.

"Eileen has been a critical leader in shaping and building our state’s economy for years," Ducey said. "She has both the knowledge and leadership experience to ensure Arizona’s portfolio is responsibly managed."

Prior to that, she was chief of staff to former Gov. Jan Brewer and chief operating officer and vice president of state affairs for a Fortune 25 health care company. She also holds an undergraduate degree from Florida State University and a master’s in public administration from Arizona State University.
