The Pima Animal Care Center (PACC) recently held a Black Fur-Day adoption weekend that resulted in finding homes for 247 pets. 

The four-day adoption event helped to place nearly 149 dogs and puppies and 98 cats and kittens into adopted homes and foster-to-adopt homes.  The adoptions took place at the PACC shelter, at Central Pet in Amado, and at Petco stores. 

“We are incredibly grateful for the community who helped us by adopting, fostering and spreading the word about our Black Fur-Day events,” PACC Director Kristen Auerbach said in a press release. “Without you and the generous funding we received from the Petco Foundation, none of this would have been possible.”

The Black Fur-Day adoption event was funded by a $15,000 Petco Foundation grant that was awarded to PACC. Petco also supplied new pet owners with leashes, toys and pet food as part of the event.

“As the holidays approached, we were hoping to find every pet a loving family," Auerbach said in a statement. "We need the community’s help to get cats and dogs out of the shelter and into adoptive and foster homes."

PACC, which will be relocating to a new facility this month, is working to find homes for as many of its pets prior to the move. Visit pima.gov/animalcare to find out more about adopting a pet.
