The City of Casa Grande has been working to garner last minute support in a recent nationwide campaign to earn enough votes to win up to $150,000 in grant money for its proposed Neon Sign Park.

The city participated in the 2017 Partners In Prevention: Main Streets national campaign, which wrapped up its voting last week. The city is trying to gain support and grant funding for its proposed Neon Sign Park, a park that will display salvaged historic neon signs from throughout the area.  

The proposed park would be located at the Arizona Plaza on North Sacaton Street.

The campaign consisted of the public voting for a specific project and is designed to bring awareness of the importance of preserving historic sites in local communities.

“I’m so proud to see how Casa Grande has defied the odds to create such a strong presence for this campaign,” Casa Grande Mayor Craig McFarland said in a press release.

Partners in Preservation, which is a community-based partnership, was created by the National Trust for Historic Preservation and American Express. Through its national campaign, Partners in Preservation will award $2 million in grant funding from American Express to Main Street districts throughout the country in need of preservation.

The winner of the campaign will be announced in November.
