A new constable for the Arrowhead Justice Precinct has been appointed by the Maricopa County board of supervisors.

Michael Branham will take over for Ron Myer, who was the constable for over 12 years, according to a press release.

“Mr. Branham is a leader and has extensive experience working in public service,” Supervisor Clint Hickman of District 4, was quoted as saying. “A retired police and criminal justice executive, Mr. Branham cares deeply about his community. He’s going to be a fantastic addition to the constable fleet.”

Constables have the responsibility to serve official documents, which includes eviction notices and orders of protection, in Maricopa County.

Although they are usually elected to the position by voters, the board of supervisors does have the authority to appoint one if the position becomes unexpectedly vacant.

Branham has previously served as a police chief and public safety director in Youngtown, an assistant city manager for the city of Surprise, executive director of the Arizona Criminal Justice Commission and the director of the Arizona Department of Juvenile Corrections.

“This is an important function," Branham said. "I pledge to bring fair, effective, timely and economic justice to everyone we encounter every day."
