The Maricopa County board of supervisors has partnered with HonorHealth so patients in Maricopa County will have a convenient way to access their medical information electronically, the county reported.

“HonorHealth has always been a great community partner,” Supervisor Steve Chucri of District 2 said in a press release. “We’re excited to be part of a project that will ultimately lead to more jobs and more integrated health care.”

The county board approved a resolution that gave HonorHealth $95 million in bonds for the electronic medical records project. Leasing for the effort will be facilitated by the Industrial Development Authority of Maricopa County (IDA). With this arrangement, IDA, a nonprofit, will serve as an intermediary. This will allow HonorHealth to receive a tax-exempt status for financing the project, and the IDA will put all associated fees back into investments for the county.

“This was a no-brainer to me," Supervisor Bill Gates of District 3 said in the release. “We’re modernizing our health care industry and investing in an area that’s already a medical and technology hub. We’re working with a partner we know and trust. It’s a win-win situation, providing a financing opportunity for one of our partners and also supporting additional local economic development through fees collected.”
