The Arizona Corporation Commission has approved emergency funds to help a Yavapai County water company.

The company was in need of repairs to infrastructure but was not financially able to cover the cost on its own, according to a media release

Acme Water Co. saw over 44 percent water loss in a single system, which was stated in its 2015 Annual Report, according to the release. The commission allocated $200,914 for repairs.

Acme has about 123 customers who live in the mobile home communities northeast of Congress. The majority of these residents are on fixed incomes, and the allocation of funds will alleviate the need for rate increases to cover the cost of the repairs.

Additionally, the Walden Meadows Community Cooperative has become the interim manager to assist the company and community.

This was the first time the commission approved giving funds from the Small Water Systems Fund, which was created by the Arizona Legislature.

Last year, the commission developed a way to provide emergency funds to small water companies to help keep water services safe for residents, according to the release.

The Arizona Corporation Commission watches over the regulation of public utilities. It was established by Article 15 of the state Constitution.
