Arizona's Department of Revenue is sending out corrected 1099-G forms this week after mailing incorrect information to approximately 580,000 people.

The original 1099-G forms mailed out should have indicated the amount that the state paid to each taxpayer in refunds from 2015. Instead, the forms included refund information from 2014 tax returns.

The state sent the correct 2015 information to the IRS, so any taxpayer who already filed their taxes using the incorrect numbers will have used different figures than the IRS, which could result in additional questioning.

Department of Revenue spokesperson Ed Greenberg said that the information should have been checked before it was sent, according to a report on PinalCentral.com. Greenberg said the department will make sure the error does not happen again, as it is costly to print and mail the forms again.
