The Loop around metro Tucson linking Marana, Oro Valley, and South Tucson has a number of projects underway that will improve the shared-use pathway for bicyclists and pedestrians, Pima County said on its website.

A new bike-pedestrian bridge being built over Camino de la Tierra will allow users to cross east-west over Camino de la Tierra without worrying about the at-grade intersection. This project should be complete in early September.

The Arizona Department of Transportation is building another bridge over I-10 and the Union Pacific Railroad tracks at Ina Road, which will close The Loop near Ina Road at Ted Walker Road and north of Ina Road at the Crossroads at Silverbell District Park for approximately two years. Once complete, new trail underpasses will be at each side of the Santa Cruz River, along with new access ramps to Ina Road, new bike lanes and new sidewalks along Ina Road.

The Pantano River Park project is on track for completion late next year as well.

Minor safety projects are complete on the Tucson Diversion Channel section of The Loop at the Veteran’s Memorial Overpass (Palo Verde Road at Aviation Highway). Part of the old pathway that had sunk has been repaired and a safety rail has been added on each side of the bridge.

An improved crossing of the Julian Wash Greenway at 12th Avenue is expected to begin in 2017, which will add a raised pedestrian/bicycle bridge.
