The Arizona Corporation Commission (ACC) recently issued a warning about a phone scam that aims to convince residents to buy into a home repair grant scheme.

The ACC said callers claim to work for the commission, offering information on how to receive a grant from the commission for home repairs. The caller requires a credit card charge of $1,300 to file the application and set up an appointment to receive the grant. To make the call seem legitimate, the caller directs residents to visit www.azcc.gov to verify the person in charge of the grant dispersal. The scammers are callingl people outside of Arizona as well.

The ACC said it does not offer home repair grants and does not endorse solicitations of any kind. The ACC said residents should report such calls to Arizona attorney general’s office at 602-542-5763, in Tucson at 520- 628-6504. To file a complaint online, visit www.azag.gov. If you live outside of Arizona and receive such a call, report it to the attorney general in your state. Be sure to write down the caller's phone number and as much information as you can obtain from the caller in order to provide an accurate report of the call.
