SRP awards grants to 25 Arizona schools for innovative learning programs
SRP's Learning Grants by SRP program has awarded $117,000 to 25 schools across Arizona for various educational initiatives.
SRP contributes more than $1.3 million every year for educational projects, grants and partnerships. It also provides free training and resources to educators. Because of the grants, students will get to explore the wonders of electricity and learn about math and science by growing plants in greenhouses built on school grounds.
Educators from Phoenix, Pinal County, Gila County, Yavapai County, Page, St. Johns and Page may apply for grants for the 2017-2018 school year at www.srpnet.com/education/grants. Learning Grants and Social Studies Grants are available.
Each of the 25 awards granted for this school year amounted to approximately $5,000. Some schools are using the monies to create gardens while others are learning about robotics, chemistry, 3D modeling or the environment. Queen Creek Middle School will use the funds for mini-tablets to support GPS and satellite imagery while mapping trails and cataloging wildlife and plant life at San Tan Regional Park. Scottsdale Preparatory Academy will purchase a weather station and dedicated computer hardware to study the weather and connect to a larger network to analyze weather data from around the world.
