Cox Communications to provide tech services to new First Place facility for autistic residents
Cox Communications is teaming up with First Place to provide the forthcoming residential property with telecommunications and internet services.
First Place will serve adults with autism and other special abilities. It is expected to open in downtown Phoenix in early 2018.
The new five-year partnership between Cox and First Place was announced at a community celebration in Phoenix.
"Cox is thrilled to be able to power the technology needs of First Place residents, ensuring they are equipped with the communication services necessary to lead independent, enriched lives," Susan Anable, southwest vice president of public affairs at Cox, said. "Having reliable gigabit speeds will allow residents to remotely meet with health care providers, participate in online education and start businesses, all while having valuable connections with family and friends."
The partnership includes a $175,000 cash contribution to install the necessary technology for the services, as well as to create Cox Technology Center to assist residents and students in their entrepreneurial endeavors, education, health care and general needs.
Cox Communications' contributions will help First Place residents lead more independent lives, enabling some to transition to other residences once ready.
First Place will offer 54 studio, one and two-bedroom units for lease, supported by many independent living services and amenities. A two-year, tuition-based First Place Transition Academy will be able to serve 32 students that are transitioning to more independent living.
