Salt River Project (SRP) is unveiling new electricty-proof gloves that can protect workers from a charge of up to 40,000 volts.

The latest test batch withstood underwater electrocution without any damage.

“The electrical testing of our rubber goods is critical to our overall safety and everyday work practices of our employees,” SRP Manager of Distribution Field Maintenance Bret Marchese said. “It also makes our lineman, and electrical journeyman in all trades, feel safe and confident in the usage of their rubber protective equipment.”

The company tests approximately 3,500 pairs of safety gloves and 1,200 insulative blankets each year and tracks each item individually by bar code and test date.

 SRP has been been testing their own equipment for more than 40 years.
