Supporting job startups in Arizona and nationwide, U.S. Reps. Kyrsten Sinema (D-AZ) and David Valadao (R-CA) introduced the Jobs in America Act recently in Washington, D.C., to help foreign-born graduates stay in the U.S.

“To protect America’s position as a global leader in innovation, tomorrow’s entrepreneurs need every opportunity to build and develop their ideas on American soil,” Sinema said. “The Jobs in America Act creates high-wage jobs here in the United States, spurs private investment and economic growth, and ensures that America remains globally competitive."

The legislation is designed to assist entrepreneurs and college graduates currently living stateside, who otherwise might be subject to deportation pending the expiration of their visas, to remain on American soil as they build businesses and contribute to the nation’s economy.

Demonstration of ability to create jobs would be vital to the success of these aspiring non-native business owners. If the Jobs in America Act passes into law, those generating employment, obtaining financing and/or producing revenue would be able to extend their visas for two years, potentially becoming eligible for permanent legal residency.

“Through commonsense reforms to our immigration system, we can foster innovation and job creation in America,” Valadao said. “Encouraging entrepreneurs to stay on our shores means more opportunities for those in desperate need of employment."
