Louisville Metro Council has approved the fiscal year 2025-2026 budget after several weeks of hearings. The council voted 21-4 in favor of the Operating Budget and 20-4 for the Capital Budget, with one abstention by Councilwoman McCraney. These budgets closely align with Mayor Craig Greenberg's proposal from April 24.
The council prioritized investments in public safety, infrastructure improvements, and addressing the housing crisis. Greater Louisville Inc. (GLI) acknowledged the extensive discussions over eight weeks to finalize the budget and appreciated the city's investment in GLI's economic development initiatives.
Key allocations include $546,000 for Group Violence Intervention, $885,000 for the Office of Violence Prevention Fund, $3,731,800 for Youth Transitional Services, and $6 million for a First Responders Training Facility.
Infrastructure funding comprises $12.5 million for the Affordable Housing Trust Fund, $30 million for street paving, $1 million for alley paving, and $2 million for sidewalk repairs. An additional $4.4 million is allocated for new vehicles and equipment for Public Works & Assets. There is also funding across departments for street and road safety projects.
Other investments include funding libraries citywide and support for KentuckianaWorks' workforce development efforts.
